John Travolta's heartbreaking tribute years after losing wife and son

<p>John Travolta has shared a heartbreaking post commemorating his late wife, Kelly Preston, and son, Jett Travolta. </p> <p>Jett was only 16 when he passed away while on vacation with his family in the Bahamas in 2009. Lisa Curry’s son suffers brutal injury

<p>Lisa Curry's son has debuted his drastic new look ahead of his upcoming role in the reboot of 1990s TV show <em>Gladiators</em>. </p> <p>Jett Kenny, 29, who is known for sporting a slicked-back man bun, is now sporting wild dreadlocks ahead of his appearance on the show.</p> <p>Jett shared a photo  of his new hairstyle up close on Instagram, just days after it was confirmed he would be taking on the role of Viking in the revamped entertainment game show, scheduled to premiere in 2024. </p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; Sweet reason why Kochie wore lipstick live on air

<p dir="ltr">David Koch wore bright red lipstick in an interview on <em>Sunrise </em>on Monday morning- all for a good cause.</p> <p dir="ltr">The<em> Sunrise </em>host wore the bold colour while interviewing model Jett Kenny, the son of sporting greats Grant Kenny and Lisa Curry.</p> <p dir="ltr">Jett also put on red lipstick mid-interview as part of the Lip-Stick It campaign - an initiative that encourages Aussie men to wear lipstick on May 11 to raise awareness and help raise funds for women’s mental health support services.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Less than half of the women experiencing mental health are seeking help,” Jett said on <em>Sunrise</em>.</p> <p dir="ltr">The initiative comes after the tragic death of Jett’s sister Jaimi, who had passed away three years ago from mental health issues.</p> <p dir="ltr">Ever since then Jett had vowed to raise awareness and funding for the cause, and is now the inaugural ambassador for the Lip-Stick It campaign.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Encouraging those people to just talk about it and having the strength that they might need to voice what they are going through. I think that was the biggest thing I found was they were so reserved, or she [Jaimi] was so reserved talking about her issues and her struggles”, Jett said.</p> <p dir="ltr">He added that, although not everyone with mental health issues experiences the same thing, he wants to encourage women to “just speak about it”.</p> <p dir="ltr">Kochie then told Jeff to “whack on the lippie”, as they talked about the campaign further.</p> <p dir="ltr">“I was trying to [apply lipstick] the other day and it is quite difficult. I might look like the Joker while I do this,” Jett told Kochie.</p> <p dir="ltr">“A lot of people think I look like the Joker without the lipstick,” Kochie quipped.</p> <p dir="ltr">Jokes aside, Jett then told the <em>Sunrise </em>host how proud he was to launch the campaign and support the women in their lives.</p> <p dir="ltr">“It’s our chance for us men to get behind the women that we love and support and show that we care,” Jett said.</p> <p dir="ltr">“If all it takes is to put on some red lipstick to start a conversation, and talk about it, I feel like it’s the least we can do.</p> <p dir="ltr">“It’s a big thing, not only for myself but for a lot of people. It could be happening to a person you work with, someone you know, but they you know – might not be talking about it because they don’t feel comfortable to do so,” he added.</p> <p dir="ltr">Jaimi died on September 14, 2020, following an 18-year battle with alcohol addiction and an eating disorder.</p> <p dir="ltr">She died at Sunshine Coast University Hospital and was surrounded by her family at the time of her death.</p> <p dir="ltr">In late January, Lisa Curry posted an<a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/lifestyle/family-pets/lisa-curry-honours-her-late-daughter-with-emotional-video" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> emotional tribute </a>to her eldest daughter in honour of her memory.</p> <p><em>Images: Sunrise on 7</em></p>

John Travolta’s iconic suit snatches a sweaty sum at auction

<p>John Travolta’s sweat stains have hit the market, snagging a staggering sum, alongside the iconic <em>Saturday Night Fever</em> white three-piece suit.</p> <p>The look rose to international fame when Travolta - as Tony Manero - took to the dancefloor in the 1977 classic, joining Stephanie Mangano for an intense disco dance competition. </p> <p>But it was the film’s promotional imagery that truly immortalised the suit - despite popular, yet incorrect, belief that Travolta had flaunted it during his solo ‘Night Fever’ dance. In posters - as well as on VCR, DVD, and CD covers - Travolta can be seen with his right arm in the air, on a dancefloor, white polyester front and centre. </p> <p>As Costume designer Patrizia von Brandenstein explained to the <em>New York Post</em>, they were looking for “a white, three-piece suit: dressy, inexpensive and polyester. There was a producer who thought a black suit would be more elegant. But heroes wear white; it’s as simple as that. </p> <p>“The pastel suits were nice and pretty, but John’s character is very much a hero. Plus, it needed to be something that a boy who works in a paint store would be able to afford. I think the suit sold for $150 or $200.”</p> <p>Initially purchased off the rack in Brooklyn for $100, the jacket - with matching waistcoat, flared trousers, black shirt, and Travolta’s 45-year-old sweat stains - was expected to fetch up to $250,000 USD (~$374,000 AUD) when it went under the hammer at Los Angeles’ Julien’s Auctions.</p> <p>Despite its distinct lack of a thorough cleaning, the suit did find a new home, with a buyer dishing out a total of approximately $388,692 AUD to call it their own.</p> <p>As a spokesperson for the auction house explained, “This suit is considered to be one of the most iconic costumes in cinema history. It is one of only two known to exist that was used during production. It has never been exhibited or sold at auction before.</p> <p>“It has become emblematic of not only the film but of the whole disco era.”</p> <p>The suit in question was actually one of a few purchased by the film’s costume designer - two were used on set, rotated in and out while the other dried, and another was used for promotional material - and was given to Julien’s Auctions by an anonymous collector who had received it from <em>Saturday Night Fever</em>’s director, John Badham in 1991. </p> <p>As for why the iconic outfit was being sold in its unique condition, the executive director of Julien’s Auctions had a simple explanation. </p> <p>“The sweat is how you know it’s authentic,” Martin J Nolan told <em>The Guardian</em>.</p> <p>“It was incredibly hot during filming, so you can still see the sweat marks around his waist. John Travolta’s teary tribute to Olivia Newton-John

"Road to recovery": Jett Buckley's health update

<p>The son of AFL legend Nathan Buckley says he's on the mend after a serious karting crash landed him in hospital. </p> <p>Jett Buckley, 15, was at a racing circuit in Melbourne when he crashed during a practice session, as the teenager suffered a torn kidney and liver and a snapped clavicle. </p> <p>“I was thrown from the kart down an embankment landing on the tarmac with the kart landing on top of me,” he said, adding he was “OK” despite the scary ordeal.</p> <p>According to a witness and friend who helped, Jett fell about 2m to another part of the track before the kart landed.</p> <p>He was taken to Royal Children’s Hospital but has since been released and is recovering at home. </p> <p>“I’m home. I’m well and I’m on the road to recovery,” Jett said in an update on Thursday.</p> <p>“Like all sports, karting has its dangerous elements but we follow a set of strict protocols before every practice session and every race.”</p> <p>Jett stressed the crash was an accident and would not stop him from getting back on the track.</p> <p>“It’s these protocols (including the safety gear I wear like a 2nd skin) that protected me and that will have me up and about in quick time,” he said.</p> <p>“Upon reflection over the last 48 hours there is no doubt that I love this sport more than anything. <p dir="ltr">Olivia Newton-John's <em>Grease</em> co-star John Travolta has wished her a beautiful tribute for what would have been her 74th birthday. </p> <p dir="ltr">The actress would have celebrated her 74th birthday on September 26 but unfortunately lost her battle to breast cancer on August 8. </p> <p dir="ltr">John Travolta wished Olivia a loving tribute on his Instagram story with a photo of the pair in the classic 1978 musical movie.</p> <p dir="ltr">The photo showed the pair as lovebirds Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson with the caption, “Happy birthday my Olivia”.</p> <p dir="ltr">Olivia’s daughter Chloe Lattanzi also marked the special day with an intimate dinner with close family and friends. </p> <p dir="ltr">She shared a video of the event with everyone wishing Olivia a “happy birthday mama”.</p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; Lisa Curry's sweet words for son Jett after emotional episode

<p><em>Image: channel 7 </em></p> <p>Jett Kenny has opened up about the death of his sister, Jaimi, in emotional scenes on SAS Australia.</p> <p>Drawing praise for his “courage” from his mother Lisa Curry after the program aired, she told him: “Jaimi would be so proud of you.”</p> <p>As part of a confronting challenge on Tuesday night’s episode, the recruits had to stand in front of their fellow contestants and talk about something they’re most ashamed of.</p> <p>The 27-year-old ironman told the group he “never fully understood” Jaimi’s health battles with alcohol and an eating disorder, which claimed her life in September last year at only 33.</p> <p>Jett said his sister had an ongoing battle with mental health issues for 15 years prior to her death, and at one stage, he attempted to have a heart-to-heart with her about it.</p> <p>“For me it was kind of just, ‘Why are you doing this to yourself?’ And never fully understood it,” Jett said.</p> <p>“There was one thing I said at her funeral. I’m not gonna say it because it was very personal but I remember saying it to her the night that she asked me….this question, and I gave her the honest truth. And I was hoping that was the harsh reality that she needed – hearing it from her younger brother.</p> <p>“But she’s gone now. I kind of regret not being there for her more.”</p> <p>Speaking in a piece-to-camera interview afterwards, Jett said his family, including famous Olympian parents Grant Kerry and Lisa Curry, did everything they could to support Jaimi through her struggles.</p> <p>“We did everything we could as a family and for Jaimi to try bring her out of it but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. She got told she wasn’t gonna make it to 30. She got to 33,” he said.</p> <p>“To me, it was like, you have the willpower to change your life and turn things around. But that’s me. I can’t speak for someone who’s going through mental health issues because I’ve never been there.”</p> <p>“Everyone has to do the best they can for the people they love, but when you can’t it makes you question yourself. Like, ‘Was I a good enough brother?’” Jett added.</p> <p>As he sat back down, he was comforted by his fellow recruits where he began to shed a tear. “It’s my older sister. Of course I’m going to miss her.”</p> <p>Jett was interrogated one-on-one toward the end of the episode, where he recalled his final goodbye with Jaimi.</p> <p>“I remember with my sister passing in September we were all sitting around the hospital bed with her, saying our last goodbyes. And I just remember seeing them (his parents) sitting there, holding her hand, just being, like, ‘What more could we have done?’.</p> <p>“Mum said it perfectly, she was fighting a demon in her head. And unfortunately the demons got her in the end. She’d beat some away and then more would come back.</p> <p>“It was good in a way because it was almost like her suffering was over. So she battled on for another eight and a half, nine hours from when I last saw her to when they took the life support off.</p> <p>“And that’s what she was, she was a fighter. One year on: Jett Kenny opens up on sister’s final moments

<p><span>Lisa Curry and Grant Kenny’s son Jett Kenny has opened up about the death of his sister. </span></p> <p><span>Jaimi died on September 14th 2020 at age 33, after a long battle with mental health issues and an eating disorder. </span></p> <p><span>Her younger brother Jett has spoken candidly about his grief at losing his sister almost one year on from her tragic death. </span><span></span></p> <p><span>The 26-year-old lifeguard, model and <em>SAS Australia </em>spoke to the Courier Mail about how he remembers every detail from the harrowing day. </span></p> <p><span>On September 13th 2020, Jett missed a call form his mother Lisa as he was finishing a lifeguard shift on the Sunshine Coast. </span></p> <p><span>He had a bad feeling when he heard the strange tone of his mum's voice, urging him to call her back. </span></p> <p class="css-1316j2p-StyledParagraph e4e0a020">Jaimi was on life support at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, and her family was gathering around her bedside.</p> <p>She was taken off life support after eight hours, and passed away another eight hours later. </p> <p class="css-1316j2p-StyledParagraph e4e0a020">“She fought all the way to the end,” Jett said.</p> <div class="hide-print ad-no-notice css-qyun7f-StyledAdUnitWrapper ezkyf1c0"> <p class="css-1316j2p-StyledParagraph e4e0a020">“The doctors thought it was going to be about a minute or two, so she was a fighter, that’s for sure.</p> <p class="css-1316j2p-StyledParagraph e4e0a020">“She originally got told she may not make it to 30, and she got to 33 so she battled on with it for a long time.”</p> <p class="css-1316j2p-StyledParagraph e4e0a020">After Jaimi's death, her parents broke the news on social media saying she <span>died after battling a “long-term illness” and had “passed away peacefully.”</span></p> <p class="css-1316j2p-StyledParagraph e4e0a020">Most people were unaware of Jaimi's health struggles and were shocked by the sudden news. </p> <p class="css-1316j2p-StyledParagraph e4e0a020">Jett said that the hardest part of it all was watching his parents become enveloped in their overwhelming grief. </p> <p class="css-1316j2p-StyledParagraph e4e0a020"><span>“You see your parents, and that’s the thing that gets me really upset is seeing mum and dad so upset, because no-one wants to see their parents upset in a way."</span></p> <p class="css-1316j2p-StyledParagraph e4e0a020"><span>“But after that, it was just a matter of trying to be strong for them, I guess.”</span></p> <p class="css-1316j2p-StyledParagraph e4e0a020"><em>Image credit: Instagram @jettkenny @lisacurry</em></p> </div>

John Travolta recalls heartbreaking conversation with son over Kelly Preston

<p>John Travolta has recalled an emotional conversation he had with his son, Ben, after the death of Kelly Preston.</p> <p>While appearing on Kevin Hart’s Peacock talk show series, <em>Hart</em>, the 67-year-old A-lister opened up about the heartbreaking chat he had with his 10-year-old son, after the family lost Preston to breast cancer in 2020.</p> <p>The actress battled the disease for two years out of the public eye.</p> <p><img style="width: 500px; height: 281.25px;" src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/7843357/travolta-family-kelly-preston-1.jpg" alt="" data-udi="umb://media/5370c8c14d914e19a0e01f0ef76dbcc7" /></p> <p>Travolta revealed he and his son were walking through their neighbourhood, when Ben admitted he was afraid to lose his father.</p> <p>"He said to me once, 'Because mum passed away, I'm afraid you're going to,'" the <em>Grease</em> star shared.</p> <p>"I said, 'Well, it's a very different thing.' And I went through the differences about my longevity and her limited life," he continued.</p> <p>"I said, 'But you know, Ben… You always love the truth and I'm going to tell you the truth about life. You just do your best at trying to live the longest you can."</p> <p>Travolta and Preston shared three children together, including daughter Ella, 21, Ben, 10, and Jett, who died in 2009 when he was just 16 after suffering a seizure.</p>

Lisa Curry’s son leaps to her defence

<p>Former Olympian Lisa Curry left a comment on her son’s Instagram photo, writing "cute" on one of his recent posts. Strangely, this prompted a troll to add a nasty remark, stating:</p> <p>"@lisacurry you comment [on] every post to get attention."</p> <p>Quickly, 27-year-old Jett replied and in a few lines, he told the troll exactly what he thought of them:</p> <p>Jett posted: "Who the f--k are you? My mum comments on every photo and you think it's for attention? Why don't you take yourself off the internet for a while, moron."</p> <p>Jett also called out the troll on Instagram Stories by sharing a screenshot of the exchange.</p> <p>"Firstly, they don't even follow me so they've gone out of their way to be annoying," he captioned the screenshot. Hollywood A-lister made Hugh Jackman clean up vomit in his trailer

<p>The Hollywood star wasn’t happy when Hugh Jackman’s best mate since kindergarten – Gus Worland - vomited in his trailer and he made the Aussie actor clean it up.</p> <p>Worland recapped the whole story on KIIS FM’s <em>Kyle and Jackie O Show</em> today and then he challenged listeners to call in and guess who the Hollywood star was.</p> <p>The incident happened in the earlier days of Jackman’s career when Worland was visiting Jackman on a movie set. One of Jackman’s co-stars invited them both to have a drink in his “much bigger trailer”.</p> <p>Worland said he walked into the trailer “… and it’s got a Cuban cigar in each corner with a cigar cutter … and there’s a tub of drinks and stuff.”</p> <p>“We sit down and start having a conversation and I’m struggling to get the words out because I’m so excited that I’m in his company,” Worland said about Jackman’s co-star.</p> <p>Worland’s nerves got the better of him and he said he was “drinking a little bit too quickly” and he found himself not feeling well, he said on the radio show.</p> <p>“Jacko’s looking at me going: ‘Are you OK, mate?’ I said, ‘I’m fine, I’m fine.”</p> <p>But he wasn’t. He added: “I’m smoking this cigar, I’m drinking these drinks and I’m hammered within an hour. I just go, ‘Oh no, I can’t hold this.’ I tried to shimmy out of the horseshoe [table] set up … which is a difficult thing to do … and I don’t quite get to the door of the trailer and I throw up everywhere.”</p> <p>Worland said that Jackman found it fairly funny but the other celebrity didn’t have the same sense of humour about the situation and he told Jackman he’d have to clean the whole thing up.</p> <p>“That takes Jacko about 20 minutes,” Worland recalled.</p> <p>Kyle Sandilands asked Worland: “He got Hugh Jackman to mop up your chunder?”</p> <p>“Yeah,” Worland said.</p> <p><strong>So, who was the Hollywood A-lister who wasn’t impressed?</strong></p> <p>Eventually a listener called through with the right answer – it was John Travolta and it was when Travolta and Jackman were filming <em>Swordfish.</em></p> <p>Worland was on the <em>Kyle and Jackie O Show</em> to promote a new initiative for his Gotcha4Life Foundation called the ‘Mind Your Mate’ campaign.</p> <p>“I want everyone to write down a list of all the people in their life that they love and actually go to our website <a href="https://www.gotcha4life.org/">gotcha4life.org</a> and pledge your mateship to them,” Worland said. “And I can send you some tips and tricks to make sure your relationship is stronger than ever before.”</p> <p>Gotcha4Life is an Australian mental fitness charity which Worland set up which takes action to engage, educate and empower people to improve their mental health and end suicide.</p> <p><strong>Image: Getty Images</strong></p>

"Mourning is personal": John Travolta speaks out about tragic passing of wife

Mourning is individual and experiencing your own journey is what can lead to healing," he told<span> </span><em>Esquire</em>.</p> <p>"This is different from someone else's journey. The most important thing you can do to help another when they are in mourning is to allow them to live it and not complicate it with yours. That's my experience."</p> <p>He also explained that he was so overwhelmed with managing everyone else's grief, he had no space for his own when his wife passed.</p> <p>“I felt so saturated with everyone’s sadness that I didn’t know what to do”.</p> <p>“The first thing you should do when you experience grief is to go to a place where you can mourn, without any interference.
